FAQ
How does copyright work on the Signs for Democracy Marketplace?
Designer Copyright: Creative designers retain copyright on their original artwork and designs submitted to the Marketplace, except as otherwise agreed in writing (view our Marketplace Agreement).
Slogans: Slogans and short phrases are generally not eligible for copyright protection under U.S. law, however your work will receive attribution and commissions from our marketplace. For more information, see the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for guidance on works not protected by copyright (see USPTO > pdf)
Combined Works: If the Marketplace Operator uses its own design with a participant’s slogan, the Marketplace Operator retains copyright on the design, but not on the slogan. The slogan creator still receives attribution and commissions from our marketplace.
Licensing: By submitting designs, creative designers grant the Marketplace Operator a non-exclusive license to use, reproduce, and display the designs for the purposes of marketing and selling products through the Signs for Democracy platform.
